It was with great sadness that we heard of the death of Ray Holden last Monday 2nd August 2010. Ray was 83 years old and died in hospital after a brief illness.
Ray was an active member of St George’s for very many years and only recently gave up his role as Elder and Treasurer. It was not only in these positions that Ray made his contribution to St George’s, he was also instrumental in setting up and leading the Fabric Committee. Despite passing on the chairmanship of this committee a few years ago, he remained an active member and was an invaluable source of information. Ray was also actively involved in the Samaritan's Purse Appeal, which has become a regular annual activity for members of St George’s.
Ray was an ambassador for St George’s in ecumenical activities with All Saints Church in Thornton Hough, attending many of the joint activities held each month – he was Chair of the Association of Church Fellowships (ACF) for a period.
The Mersey Synod was also a beneficiary of Ray’s goodwill and tireless efforts as he undertook the responsibilities of Synod Treasurer for several years.
Following a family service of committal at Landican there will be a Service to Celebrate Ray’s Life at St George’s Church, Thornton Hough on Wednesday 11th August at 10.45am.
As we commend Ray to God’s loving care we remember also in our prayers his wife Margaret, and his daughters Susan and Christine.
