Serenade of Summer Music
Strelitzia String Quartet
Our fourth concert on Saturday 16th July featured "Strelitzia String Quartet". Like the bird of paradise flower, which gave the group their name, they delighted a large audience.
The theme of the programme was the lyrical quality of the string quartet and in the first half their playing of a variety of classical pieces had something for everyone. The quality of the playing was as ever on these occasions quite outstanding. It never ceases to amaze me how lucky we are to be able to attract such expertise to St George’s.
The second half saw the lighter side of the quartet with the formal suits abandoned and” Strelitzia at the Movies” in full swing. They had us all tapping our feet and I am sure I could hear some people humming along with their particular favourite. Again wonderful playing by each musician.
I hope I expressed your feelings when I thanked them for giving us a most memorable evening. I think that must be true because a number of people asked me when the next concert is and that could we please ask Strelitzia to come back in the future.
